Vera’s Incarceration Trends tool combines Bureau of Justice Statistics jail and prison data with Vera’s own research to provide county- and state-level incarceration statistics dating to 1970. It lets users compare jail and prison populations, incarceration rates and racial disparities across counties, and is especially useful for stories on smaller and rural jail systems that national figures tend to obscure.
