CourtListener is a free, searchable database of millions of court opinions plus a growing archive of oral arguments and judicial financial disclosures. Its companion project, RECAP, is a browser extension that captures documents purchased from the federal Public Access to Court Electronic Records system, known as PACER, and adds them to a public archive so journalists can search and download federal case filings, dockets and judges’ financial interests without paying PACER’s per-page fees. The financial disclosure database has been used in major investigations, including ProPublica’s Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting on the Supreme Court.
