The Incarceration Transparency Database provides data on deaths in prisons and jails for Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. The project compiles records on individuals who died while in custody and includes information on facility, cause of death, demographic characteristics and incarceration status. The database allows users to explore deaths behind bars by state and year and aims to increase public access to information about conditions and mortality in prison facilities.
