PACER is the official repository for U.S. court dockets, filings and decisions, searchable by case number or party name but not by document content. Registration is free, but the service charges 10 cents per page to view or download documents, billed quarterly; per-document fees are capped at $3, and charges are waived entirely for anyone who doesn’t exceed $30 in a quarter.

Important: That cap applies only to documents, not to search results — a broad search, such as pulling every lawsuit against a large company or government agency, can return hundreds of pages with no fee ceiling. Note: A previously approved fee increase, from 10 to 12 cents per page, takes effect Jan. 1, 2027, and will remain in place for five years, so check PACER’s pricing page before running large searches.

Tip: Installing the free RECAP browser extension (Chrome and Firefox) can retrieve many PACER documents at no cost by pulling from a public archive of previously purchased filings.
