TRAC, the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, is a data-gathering and research center at Syracuse University that has tracked federal enforcement, courts and staffing since 1989. Its free tools cover immigration court backlogs and case outcomes dating to the 1990s, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention populations, and prosecution and staffing data for the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, Internal Revenue Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Because it draws on internal agency records obtained largely through Freedom of Information Act lawsuits, TRAC is often the earliest and most detailed public source for stories on immigration court delays, detention trends and federal criminal enforcement patterns. Note: The site moved off Syracuse’s domain to tracreports.org in early 2025.
