The Paper Prisons Statistics database from the Paper Prisons Initiative provides data and research on the long-term consequences of criminal records in the U.S. The project focuses on measuring the “second chance gap,” defined as the difference between the number of people eligible for relief from criminal record and the number who actually receive it. The database compiles national statistics on criminal records, incarceration, voting restrictions, driver’s license suspensions and other collateral consequences affecting people with past criminal justice involvement. It also includes state-level reports for all 50 states, along with data on racial disparities and other structural barriers that limit reintegration into society.
